Why this works for TY and LCA

Students have real conversations, interviews and presentations coming up. These workshops prepare them for those moments.

Immediately relevant

Job interviews, work experience, LCVP enterprise pitches and class presentations. Students will use these skills before the year is out.

Actively taught

No lectures and no sitting still. Students do the activities, and they leave having spoken, been challenged, given feedback and grown in a single session.

Curriculum connected

Connects with LCVP, LCA English and Communication, SPHE and Career Guidance, so it earns its place in the timetable.

The workshop structure

A practical, progressive workshop that builds confident communication through active participation. Students develop essential speaking skills, then apply them as they move from speaking to one person, to a small group, and finally to an audience. Every stage includes opportunities to practise and receive constructive feedback.

01 Warm-Up

An energetic, interactive opening that builds confidence, establishes presence and gets everyone speaking from the start.

02 The Four Skills

Students explore commanding presence, eye contact, helping hands and voice through practical activities, learning how each skill strengthens their communication.

03 Speak to One

Working in pairs, students practise speaking with confidence and clarity, applying the four skills and giving each other focused feedback.

04 Speak to a Few

Students progress to small-group speaking, learning to organise their thoughts, communicate a clear message and engage their listeners.

05 Speak to Many

Students bring their skills together in a short, structured presentation to an audience, using purposeful movement alongside presence, eye contact, gestures and voice.

Career Guidance

Interview preparation, professional communication and work experience preparation.

What schools say

Feedback from a Mighty Oak workshop.

TY coordinator

“The students were engaged from the first minute. What struck me most was how students who would never normally speak up in class were standing in front of their peers by the end of the morning. Something genuinely shifted in that room.”
